"I met with Shannon a few weeks ago for my first consultation. I was mostly interested in dealing with sugar cravings and with muscle/body fatigue after working out. I consider myself well educated about nutrition, but I felt that I might be missing something in my diet that made my cravings so sharp and my recovery from workouts not effective.
I can tell you - a few weeks of incorporating some of Shannon's suggestions and I already feel enormous improvement! In fact, something she said about how she thinks I view food made my attitude change right after our meeting. I followed her advice on what to eat before and after working out, some of it calorie-rich food and with sugars, but with the right ingredients and without the guilt I associated with it. And it was that simple -- giving my body what it actually needed has solved both my recovery and craving issues.
I was impressed with the level of detail she covered during our consultation. We talked about every possible aspect of life in which I might find improvement through nutrition, and after our session she sent me a detailed recap of everything we talked about and all of her suggestions for things to change/try. And unlike many other nutritionists I've seen, she did not give me a laundry list of supplements I MUST take. She suggested a couple supplements to begin with which she thought were the most important, and mostly gave me ideas for how to add certain vitamins/minerals/amino-acids/and other compounds into my diet through real food, and how to change my attitude about food.
I think Shannon is truly gifted. She has an incredible wealth of knowledge about health and nutrition from her professional training and her own life experience. Being a scientist myself, I found her consultation style to be a unique combination of an evidence-based, scientific approach complemented by a deep spirituality that connects all those hard scientific data with the softer intuitive sense of what is right and what works for a particular individual.
